Hyderabad: Chancellor of Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani Dr Kumar Mangalam Birla wanted students of BITS to stay focused and cultivate self-confidence.

“This is a time when the future is full of uncertainty and change is the only certainty. So, as you move ahead, you will need to embrace these aspects in your stride,’’ he said. Birla sent a message to the BITS, which celebrated its convocation on Sunday.

The BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus organised the convocation programme for its graduates of 2017 batch. Dr Rajendra Singh, water conservationist, winner of the ‘Stockholm Water Prize’, the renowned 'Waterman of India', founder of 'Tarun Bharat Sangh' has participated as the chief guest. He was joined by Prof Souvik Bhattacharyya, Vice-Chancellor, and Prof G Sundar, director of campus.

This year, 656 graduates of First Degree, 68 of Higher Degree and 20 of Ph.D Programmes were awarded degrees on the occasion. Adithya Murali, Devendra Singh Shekhawat and Kinjal Jain were awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze medals respectively for their outstanding academic excellence.

In his convocation address Dr Rajendra Singh said that he was extremely delighted to witness the milestones of success in the odysseys of so many bright students all at one place.

“Neer, Naari, Nadi (Water, Women and River) are those three aspects that tread any country towards progress.”
Presenting his annual report, Vice Chancellor Prof Souvik Bhattacharyya said that the industry engagement programmes like the Practice School and the Work Integrated Learning Programme (WILP) are corner stones of the educational philosophy of BITS.

With over 400 research-focused faculty members joining, the Research Seed Grant Scheme has been revised to help them compete with the very best in India.

Prof G Sundar, Director of Hyderabad campus, reviewed the achievements of BITS Pilani, Hyderabad campus during the academic year 2016-2017 and mentioned that the campus is not only committed in achieving excellence in research and development but also keen on promoting innovation and entrepreneurship.

BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus, established in 2008, is a fully residential campus. Around 1100 bright minds are admitted every year into the first degree, higher degree and doctoral programmes. The campus has a Technology Business Incubator (TBI) to provide mentoring and incubation facilities for early stage information and entrepreneurial innovations. The second phase of construction at the Hyderabad Campus, which started in February last year, is in full swing and will be completed by 2019.
