Hyderabad: The Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao directed the District Collectors to revive forests in 24 per cent of land in the State and asked them to take it as top priority issue.

Addressing a review meeting with District Collectors, Joint Collectors and RDOs here on Thursday, he said as per the statistics the State has 26 lakh acres of forest lands, he said.

He also asked them to give top priority to social forestry and as part of the land records rectification programme, he asked them to identify the forest land and fix the boundaries.

Suggesting a two steps action plan, the Chief Minister asked the Collectors to first, identify forest lands, which have no disputes or litigation and fix the boundaries and added that it should be followed up with taking up the disputed forest land records, the Chief Minister said.

Appreciating the District Collectors for the smooth functioning of the newly carved districts, he asked them to make Haritha Haram programme (HPP) a success and give incentives to those working for the same.

For this, he asked them to prepare district wise action plans for the implementation of HPP. Referring to the Mission Bhagiratha programme, Chandrashekar Rao asked the Collectors to ensure that works were completed to provide drinking water through the taps. “Drinking water should be provided to all habitations, like Dalitwadas, Chechugudems and Tribal hamlets,” he said.

Providing details about the government’s move to empower 30 lakh Yadav and Kuruma population through distribution of sheep, he asked the Collectors to ensure that the sheep distribution and fish culture schemes were implemented in such a way that the State would become an exporting State.

Further, the Collectors were asked to visit Dalitwadas and Tribal hamlets in their respective districts and adopt them. The Chief Minister said each district would be given Rs one core for the development of Dalitwada and another Rs one crore for the development of Tribal hamlets and asked them to ensure infrastructure development and basic amenities and implementation of other welfare programmes.
