Hyderabad: Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao on Friday said the Congress was unable to digest the measures being implemented by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government for the welfare of farmers in Telangana State and its leaders were behaving like sadists.
Addressing a press conference, along with Home Minister Naini Narasimha Reddy, MLC Karne Prabhakar and others, at the TRS Legislature Party office here, Harish Rao said the Congress leaders were yet to recover from the shock of losing 2014 elections.
“They are still mourning their defeat in the last elections and also trying to involve farmers in the same,” he said, adding that farmers of Telangana were extremely happy with the measures taken up by the TRS government which the Congress leaders were unable to accept.
Harish Rao said the Congress did not want the farmers to get the benefit of government schemes, which provided the farmers financial assistance of Rs 8,000 per acre and hence they were proposing the formation of alternate committees to the committees formed by the government.
“It is unfortunate that Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Uttam Kumar Reddy talks of obstructing Rythu Samithis. We have been doing what the Congress could not do during last 40 years. It does not behove a person like Uttam Kumar to talk like that since he claims to have worked in the military,” said Harish Rao.
Harish Rao said the TRS government was completing the projects which were left pending by the Congress. On one hand, the pending projects were getting completed and on the other, the additional ayacut was brought under irrigation, he added. He said the government could bring five lakh additional acres under irrigation through its programme of Mission Kakatiya.
The Minister said during the Congress regime, there was only six hours power supply with multiple cuts.
He said the TRS government was giving 24-hour quality power supply to the farmers. The Minister alleged that while the Congress could create godown capacity of 4 lakh metric tonnes, the TRS government created godown capacity to 18 lakh metric tonnes within three years. He claimed that the government procured 21 lakh metric tonnes of tur dal spending Rs 1,024 crore.
“The government procured record 96 lakh metric tonnes of paddy during the last year and the Civil Supplies Corporation alone procured 54 lakh metric tonnes,” Harish Rao said.
