Hyderabad: In a bid to ease traffic congestion at the RTC Crossroads and Secunderabad, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to build skyways and multi-grade separators. It has decided to construct a flyover from the VST Junction to Indira Park and multigrade separators at Secunderabad.

According to GHMC officials, the subject of flyover and multigrade separator works has been discussed at a high-level meeting chaired by Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K Tarakarama Rao. KTR has instructed the GHMC officials to undertake flyover construction works on priority and chalk out plans to construct flyovers at various junctions across the city where traffic snarls are reported.

When asked about the subject, a senior engineering official said the GHMC would construct a skyway from the VST Junction to Indira Park with an estimated cost of Rs 200 crore as part of the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP).

As per the preliminary estimations, properties, including Bus Bhavan, Bawarchi Restaurant, Astoria Restaurant, Sandhya Theatre, would be partly hit. However, he said, a clear picture would be known in the first week of October after conducting a comprehensive study. The GHMC official said a multigrade separator would be built to connect Rail Nilayam with Marredpally and Clock Tower. He said both flyover and multigrade separator would pass above the Metro Rail structure.

Meanwhile, the civic body said it will complete the SRDP phase I in five packages. Package I includes multi-level flyovers and grade separators at six junctions: KBR Park entrance, Maharaja Agrasen Jn (Road No 12), Film Nagar, Road No 45 Junction, Jubilee Hills Check-Post Junction and Cancer Hospital Junction (Road No 10 Junction).

The total cost of the Package-I is around Rs 322.92 crore. Package II includes LB Nagar Junction, Bairamalguda Junction, Kamineni Hospital Junction on Inner Ring Road and Chintalkunta Check-post Junction (Rs 331.38 crore).
