The stage is set for the mega global summit. The eighth edition of Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) will get underway in the City of Pearls when Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates it today at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre.

Ivanka Trump, daughter of US President Donald Trump and his advisor, will be the star attraction at inaugural session which will be attended by several union ministers Sushma Swaraj and Nirmala Sitharaman. Ivanka is leading a 350-member US delegation to the event being organised jointly by the US and Indian governments.

As many as 1,500 delegates from 150 countries are attending the three-day event, which will primarily focus women entrepreneurs with its core them being ‘Women First, Prosperity For All.’ Reflecting the same, more than 52 per cent of delegates are women. Besides, more than 10 countries, including Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia and Israel, will be represented by their all-women delegation at the summit.

“The theme of this year's summit demonstrates the commitment of the US and the Indian governments to the principle that when women are economically empowered, their communities and countries thrive. Women entrepreneurs help drive innovation and job creation as well as address the world's greatest and most critical challenges," said Amitabh Kant, CEO, NITI Aayog here.

Post the inaugural session, Ivanka Trump, an entrepreneur herself, and Indian Defence Minister Sitharaman are scheduled to take part in a panel discussion on opening up of opportunities for women entrepreneurs. John Chambers, Chairman Emeritus, Cisco, who is among the star speakers at the summit, will moderate the discussion.

Kant who addressed a joint press conference with US Ambassador to India Kenneth Juster here said that the closing session of the GES is scheduled to bring together key influencers who support, promote and fund women entrepreneurs. The closing session will be moderated by Union Commerce Minister Suresh Prabhu. Replying to a query, Juster lauded Modi for the recent World Bank's ranking of India on the ease of doing business.

"The important point is that the economic reform process will obviously increase US investments in India," he said. He, however, said the investment decisions are made by the private sector and are driven by market forces. On the GES, Juster said both India and the US focus on innovation and events like this will boost the process further in this regard.

A number of leading female voices will address various plenaries, breakout sessions, master classes, and workshops. They include tennis champion Sania Mirza, Diana Louise Patricia Layfield, Vice President, Next Billion Users, Google, and Roya Mahboob, CEO, Afghan Citadel Software Company. On Tuesday, the central government will host a gala dinner for delegates at Taj Falaknuma Palace in the old city followed by another dinner by the Telangana government at historic Golconda Fort on Wednesday. The US government is like to treat the delegates with a dinner on Thursday.
