Hyderabad: The eighth edition of Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES), which kicked off amid much fanfare on Tuesday, ended on a grand note on Thursday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the global conclave of entrepreneurs in the presence of Ivanka Trump, the eldest daughter of US President Donald Trump and his advisor, who stole the show with her scintillating speech. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao also took part in the inaugural session.

The City of Pearls is the first city in South Asia to host the summit which is an annual event planned by the US Government to celebrate the spirit of entrepreneurship. Ivanka arrived in the city in the early hours of Tuesday and left on Wednesday. Apart from inaugural session, she also took part in a panel discussion on opportunities for women on the same day.

On the second day on Wednesday, Ivanka participated in panel discussion on ‘We can do it! Innovations in Workforce Development and Skills Training” in which several other successful women including Cherie Blair, the wife of former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, participated. Telangana IT Minister K T Rama Rao moderated the discussion.

Known for her unwavering commitment towards the empowerment of women, Ivanka passionately spoke about women entrepreneurs and the challenges they face. She also batted for the government policies that would encourage women to take the path of entrepreneurship. During her stay, she also visited historic Golconda fort.

Over 1,500 delegates from 150 countries took part in the global summit that put Hyderabad on global map yet again. With the core theme of the summit being ‘Women First, Prosperity For All’, organisers – the Indian and US governments – saw to it that women accounted for over 52 per cent of the total delegates. For a change, women relegated men to back seats and it was first time in GES that women outnumbered men. Besides, more than 10 countries including Saudi Arabia were represented by their all-women delegations.

Held at the sprawling Hyderabad International Convention Centre, the massive conclave comprised 52 sessions. The four focus areas were healthcare and life sciences, digital economy and financial technology, energy and infrastructure, media and entertainment.

Miss World Manushi Chillar and tennis star Sania Mirza, besides adding glamour quotient to the event, shared the challenges they faced. The Indian government hosted dinner to delegates at Falaknuma Palace on Tuesday followed by a dinner with authentic that the Telangana government arranged at Golconda on Wednesday.
