Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister and Cabinet Advisory Board on Education (CABE) Sub-committee Chairman Kadiyam Srihari submitted the CAB’s report recommending several measures for the improvement of girl education in the country.

Srihari who met the Union Minister for Human Resources Development Prakash Javadekar at Delhi on Tuesday discussed different issues and handed over the CAB report.

As part of the recommendation, Srihari said the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) are being run up to standard VIII in the country whereas in Telangana, KGBVs are being run up to Standard X. The CAB recommended extending the KGBVs up to standard XII.

The HRD Minister had in principle agreed to the recommendations. Srihari said the Union Minister assured that a decision will be taken on the CAB report during the cabinet meeting scheduled to be held by the end of February.

Similarly, providing mid-day meal, school uniforms were the other recommendations which would prevent girls to drop out from schools, he said. Srihari requested the Union Minister to provide free and compulsory education for girls up to post-graduation, providing health kits to girl students as it is implemented in Telangana.

The report also recommended establishing special Gurukul Schools for SC and ST girls as implemented in Telangana. The report also urged to increase the number of admissions in model schools to 200 from the current strength of 100. He also urged the Minister to take steps and sanction IIM, IIIT and women's university as promised in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act.
