Bhadrachalam: River Godavari water level raised following heavy rains in the upper catchment area of the river. The water level in the river was measured at 20.3 feet as against 16.3 feet on Sunday. Heavy rains in the river catchment area in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh are causing the water level to rise.

During the last 24 hours, heavy rains lashed the district. On Sunday the water level was recorded at 16.3 at 6:00 pm. On early hours of Monday around 6:00 am, the water level decreased two feet and was recorded at 16.1 but, the water level slowly increased and reached 20.3 feet around 6:00 pm on Monday.

The water reached the pushkara steps and if it further rises till 43 feet, the officers will flag the first warning level at Bhadrachalam. The officials lifted the seven gates till two feet height and released 8,000 cusecs water from pushkara ghat to river Godavari.
