Hyderabad: The State government will drop 75.80 lakh fish seed into lakes, ponds and water bodies across Telangana this year, according to Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav. He also announced that it was decided to take up fish dropping and distribution programme at Jayashankar Bhupalapally on July 31.

The Minister conducted a high-level review meeting at the Secretariat here and discussed on the plan for helping fishermen by taking up massive fish dropping programme. He asked the officials to make suitable arrangements for the programme and ensure that the local leaders were coordinated.

The fish dropping programme would be conducted simultaneously at Ghanpur lake and Ramappa lake under Mulug segment, he said. The Minister said it was decided to drop four crore fish seed in 23 reservoirs and water bodies in the district. The programme, he said, would help uplift the fishermen like never before. The State government would also distribute subsidised vehicles to fishermen by the end of August this year, he said.

The fishermen with membership in fishermen societies in villages and districts will get the benefit of subsidised vehicles. Modalities have been finalised and district officials will select the beneficiaries and give them subsidised vehicles for transportation and marketing of fish produce. The markets were being constructed with facilities to ensure that the fishermen sell and benefit, Srinivas said. He also said the fishermen with membership would get benefited under the scheme.

Meanwhile, during a video conference from the Secretariat, he directed the officials concerned to see that guidelines were followed strictly with regard to distribution of buffalos among beneficiaries through a scheme to be launched in August first week. He said members of Vijaya Dairy, Mulkanur, Mother and Karimnagar dairies would be given 2.13 lakh buffalos and cows during the programme.

Vijaya Dairy MD would be nodal officer and the District Collector would closely monitor it, he said. Farmers were given free hand to purchase buffalos and cows on subsidy. It was decided to give Rs 5,000 towards transportation, he said. “The government is firm to help rural people by encouraging community and caste-based professions. District officials should follow the spirit of distributing sheep while distributing buffalos and cows,” he said.
