Mancherial: District Collector RV Karnan on Tuesday appealed the officials of forest and education departments for making the Haritha Haram scheme a success. Along with Conservator of Forest and Tiger Reserve Project Officer K Saravanan and DFO Ramalingam, he participated in a training programme ‘Swachh Patashala—Haritha Patashala’ conducted by forest and education departments.
Addressing the participants, the Collector stated that forest cover was spread over 45 per cent of the district area and called for special efforts by students to plant saplings in their schools and protect them in coordination with the officials of education and forest departments. Karnan advised the MEO and DPRO to take students to forests for creating awareness among them.
Saravanan said the programme would be useful for large0scale tree-plantation drive to be taken up by the education department and ensuring their survival. During the programme, education department officials created awareness among the students on Haritha Haram and protection of trees. They made the students plant five saplings each and called for their survival.
