Rangareddy: State Election Commission is gearing up for the upcoming general elections. The commission has released draft voter list of eight constituencies of Rangareddy district. As per the newly released list, the number of voters has increased significantly from the previous list. A total of 26,56,103 voters are included in the list, of which 13,95,369 are male, 12,60,296 female and 348 neutral gender voters.

There are three NRI voters in the list, two from Rajendra Nagar and one from LB Nagar. There were 24,50,147 voters in the district as per the earlier voter registration program conducted at the beginning of the year. The recent voter registration program has witnessed enthusiastic participation from youth. As a result, 2,05,866 new voters have been added to the voter list. Voter registration is a continuous process. Any person who is 18 years old as on January 1, 2019 can register his or her name to be included in the list. New voters can raise objection in case of any mistakes in the entries in last voter list before October 31.

As part of registration process, the corrections to the draft voter list began on September 1 in all the constituencies of the district. The draft voter list consisting of voter photos has been kept for observation in all the polling stations. Election Commission of India has allowed new voters to check the entries in the draft list and request for necessary changes, if any. As part of the process, eligible candidates will be registered as new voters and the names of ineligible persons will removed from the list.

The last date for receiving applications for correctionsin the voter list is October 31. New voters can avail this opportunity to make necessary changes or corrections in the entries. The applications will be examined and redressed before November 30. This will be followed by the removal of ineligible and dead voters from the list. Voters can also apply for change of place in their entries. The final voter list will be published on January 4, 2019.
