Kothapet: The demand for eco-friendly Ganesh idols is on the rise as a majority of the devotees are enquiring and buying green idols. Speaking to Mahesh, an artisan who put up stall at Kothapet said, “There is a lot of demand for eco-friendly Ganesh idols. We use simple clay and river sand to carve out Ganesh idols. We spent around Rs 5,000 for making a one idol with a height of 4-5 ft. It takes one day to make one idol and we use very less easily dissolvable colours for the idols.”
He further said, “We are selling a green Ganesh idol at Rs 10,000 and if the size is more than 5ft we charge extra Rs 1,000. Till today we sold around 15 idols and 250 idols more are ready for sale. We are expecting these idols to be sold before the festival.”
Srinivas a customer said, “The growing popularity and greater acceptance of eco-friendly clay Ganesh idols is an emerging trend to save the environment among the people. For the past two years I am purchasing eco-friendly clay Ganesh.” Another customer Shiva said, “When compared to plaster of paris Ganesh, the rates of eco-friendly Ganesh are slightly less. So, we prefer to buy clay Ganesh.”
