My father killed Pranay: Amrutha

Miryalaguda: Just a day after her husband was hacked to death before her eyes, suspected to be a case of honor killing, Amrutha Varshini alleged that her father Tirunagari Maruthi Rao had killed her husband Perumalla Pranay. Amrutha belonging to Vaishya caste had married 24-year-old Pranay, who was a Dalit Christian. They had eloped and married in January this year and now she is three months pregnant.

Speaking to the media at Jyothi Hospital, where she has been undergoing treatment, here on Saturday, she said that her father was against her love marriage and hatched a plan to kill Pranay. “My father told me multiple times that he would kill my husband as I did not obey his wish," she added.

Explaining about the murder incident, she recalled that her father had called her a minute before the murder. "But I didn't pick up the call as I was busy with checkup in the hospital.” An unidentified person attacked Pranay when we are going back to our house, she added.

She said that she called her father after Pranay was attacked, who spoke with her recklessly. She added that her mother had informed the plans of her husband to kill Pranay. But the police had ignored their complaint about the threat to Pranay’s life from her family members (father and uncle). Amrutha clarified that she will never go back to her parents and will keep the baby with her as his gift.

Meanwhile, it was known that Nalgonda police reportedly arrested Amrutha’s father T Maruthi Rao and her uncle Sravan Kumar (Father’s brother), who were accused of involved in the honor killing in Hyderabad on Friday. But the police are yet to confirm the arrest.

According to police, a supari gang had closely observed Pranay for a few days and murdered him. Meanwhile, a bandh was observed in Miryalaguda town on Saturday protesting against the brutal killing of SC youth Pranay. Members of various Dalit organisations took out a rally in the town and demanded justice.

Educational institutions, cinema halls, hotels, petrol bunks and business establishments in the town were closed, voluntarily extending their cooperation for bandh call given by Dalit organisations.

Leaders of Dalit organisations demanded the government for setting up of a special court for speedy trial in the case.  MP Gutha Sukender Reddy, former MLA Bhaskar Rao, SC Corporation Chairman E Srinivas and MRPS founder-president Mandakrishna Madiga visited Pranay’s house in Miryalaguda and consoled his family members. Dalit organisations leaders described Pranay’s murder as caste egotism.
