Khammam: YSR Congress party, which was once considered a force to reckon with in Khammam, is facing tough time here because of defection of legislators and neglect of the party chief Jaganmohan Reddy. Now the party is battling for survival in the district.

The YSRCP, which surprised everyone across the State by bagging three ST reserved Assembly seats along with the Khammam Lok Sabha seat in 2014 elections, had emerged as major force in the erstwhile Khammam district.

In 2014 general elections, YSRCP won three Assembly seats from Ashwaraopet, Pinapaka and Wyra along with Khammam Lok Sabha seat. The party received a major jolt with the joining of MP Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy into the TRS party.

The YSRCP district president, Lakkineni Sudheer Babu said the YSR Congress party in alliance with the CPM made inroads into the tribal pockets of the district. “It is a fact that we were able to win those seats in Khammam only because of the charisma of the former Chief Minister Y S Rajashekar Reddy,” he said.

“The party has now realised its limitation in working in both states and is taking up activities in accordance with that in Telangana. The party is active in the district on all fronts and is preparing itself for the upcoming Assembly elections.

We have our own vote bank in the district and will contest all the Assembly segments present in the Khammam district after receiving orders from the YSRCP Telangana president Gatttu Srikanth Reddy,” he added.

On the other hand, political analysts are of the opinion that the party has given up its hold in the State as it is evident from the recent developments. Moreover, the party’s main leadership is seen to be focusing only in Andhra Pradesh neglecting the party in Telangana due to which the party is almost disappearing from the State’s political scene.

“There is no scope for the YSRCP in Telangana as its chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy is busy in building the base for party in AP. The best thing it can do is to utilise its resources in AP and get strengthened in that region” they advised.
