Hyderabad: With the larger objective of developing the emerging Kaleshwaram project areas and its environs into an international tourist destination, the Telangana government is planning to rope in multi-national companies for establishing high-end infrastructure that would meet the needs of foreign tourists.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, during his second visit to the Kaleshwaram sites on Wednesday, instructed officials to promote tourism at the locales by providing appropriate amenities upon completion of the project works.

The Chief Minister said that once the Kaleshwaram project is completed, the entire area could be turned into a massive tourist spot. Accordingly, the State government is planning to construct hotels and restaurants, spread over 5-10 acres of land. A proposal to involve multi-national companies in promoting tourism at the project sites is also under consideration. Apart from developing the road network along the project sites, electric boating facilities will also be developed, he said and instructed the officials to prepare proposals for this.

Expressing his unhappiness over the delay in the completion of irrigation works, the Chief Minister rapped the officials and contracting agencies. He then asked them to expedite the works by increasing the machinery engaged and quadrupling the deployment of labour at the work sites.

The Chief Minister visited the Kannepalli pump house taken up under the Kaleshwaram project and inspected the works of the barrage over a stretch of 15 km, connecting the pump house and the Annaram barrage. He inspected the works and enquired from officials and representatives of the agencies the progress in the works. The CM sought to know the reasons behind the collapse of side slopes along the canal in some areas and instructed officials to build concrete guide walls in place of the slopes. He wanted them to execute the works on a war footing, working three shifts with sufficient work force.

The CM set March 31 as the deadline for the completion of the works at Annaram and Sundilla barrages and the officials of state Energy Department were also asked to complete the works at subs-stations speedily. During his visit to the pump house taken up under Sriram Sagar revival scheme, KCR asked the officials to speed up the installation of the first two pump motors and complete them by March. The third motor pump will have to be installed by June. Chief Secretary SK Joshi and CM OSD Sridhar Rao Deshpande were also present.
