Charminar:The Helping Hand Foundation (HHF) which found nearly half of the students of a madrasa near Charminar with skin diseases, called upon the education institutions to maintain hygiene to avoid possibility of attracting scabies, itchy skin condition caused by a tiny burrowing mite called Sarcoptes scabiei.

Mujtaba Hassan Askari, president HHF, said that children of economically weaker sections, who study at madrasas live in unhygienic conditions. In a madrasa, near Charminar, where HHF conducted a screening camp on request, out of 260 children aged between 7 to 12 years, 104 students were found suffering with scabies.

While speaking to The Hans India, Mujtaba said, HHF has initiated the treatment and personal care and hygiene for the next 15 days with aid of Foundation’s panel doctors and volunteers. “What is sad about this is the poor health, hygiene and sanitation in the seminaries, where these children come to learn the Quran, we don't know if many more such institutions of reverence have similar stories to narrate,” he wondered.
