Hyderabad: Politicians, State administrative officials and citizens on Wednesday paid homage and floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi to mark his 71st death anniversary. As a mark of tribute, Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, Council Chairman Swamy Goud and Home Minister Mahmood Ali paid tributes to Father of the Nation at Bapu Ghat in Langer House on Wednesday morning.

All religious prayers were conducted to mark the occasion and the leaders observed silence for two minutes at 11 am. Mayor Bonthu Rammohan, former Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya, Chief Secretary S K Joshi, Principal Secretary Adhar Sinha, MLA Srinivas Goud, Congress leaders P Sudhakar Reddy and others also paid tributes. On the Assembly premises, the Speaker and the Chairman paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at his statue. CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and others were also present.

Congress leaders also paid rich tributes to Mahatma Gandhi. Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N Uttam Kumar Reddy, CLP Leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, GHMC Congress Committee president Anjan Kumar Yadav, TPCC vice-presidents Mallu Ravi, Kumar Rao, general secretaries Bolli Kishan, Prem Lal, CJ Srinivas, Kailash, Nagesh paid floral tributes to the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Mallu Ravi said, “the second freedom struggle against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi has begun. He said they would form the government at the Centre by defeating the BJP in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections. He also alleged that the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre was following the ideals of Nathuram Godse, who killed Mahatma Gandhi, while the Congress was following the ideals of Father of the Nation.

Consul General of the U S in Hyderabad Katherine B Hadda met Leader of the Opposition in Andhra Pradesh Assembly and YSR Congress party president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday. Later, Jagan and Katherine Hadda paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi. Also present at the meeting were YSRCP former MP Mithun Reddy, Rajya Sabha member Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy and others.
