Hyderabad: The Telangana Parents Association on Saturday demanded that the State government immediately release the pending school grants. In a representation submitted to the Director of School Education (DSE) here on Saturday, TPA president N Narayana and secretary P Lakshmaiah said, “only two months are left for the completion of the current academic year. The Centre had released Rs 735.34 crore as part of its 60 per cent share in April 2018.

However, the State government has not released the grants to the schools along with its share,” he added. He said school headmasters are facing a tough time in managing to even purchase chalk pieces, dusters and in maintaining drinking water facility and sanitation. Besides, they are not able to get even minor repairs done.

Payment of power and newspaper bills are pending and procurement of library equipment, internet service, games material and implementing Swachhta Action Plan (SAP) have turned as a burden to school headmasters due to lack of funds, he added. It was against this backdrop that the TPA is demanding that the State government immediately take steps to release the school grants, Narayana said.
