Failed PG students resort to protest
Following the declaration of the examination results where nearly twothirds of the PG students of Unani were detained, the students, including girls, resorted to protest in the campus of Government Nizamia Tibbi College in Charminar on Wednesday
Charminar: Following the declaration of the examination results where nearly two-thirds of the PG students of Unani were detained, the students, including girls, resorted to protest in the campus of Government Nizamia Tibbi College in Charminar on Wednesday.
The historic Nizamia Tibbi College and General Hospital has always remained in news for wrong reasons over lack of funding from the State government. This time, however, it is in the limelight because 42 out of 74 students (PG Final year) could not see their names in the passed-student list. They alleged that lack of necessary faculty and improper handling of practical examinations has made them victims.
Abdul Raheem, one of the final year students who are leading the protest, alleged that the teaching staff purposefully failed them in the exam, so that some lecturers can get favours in the re-evaluation.
“Besides no proper lab facilities in the college, some of the faculty members are not interested in delivering lectures. They seek favours from students and if they face any resistance they ensure they get failed in the exams. This can be pointed out by the fact that all the students who failed in the exams also failed in the practical examinations,” Raheem said.
A girl student who participated of the demonstration said that the students have been waiting for results anxiously for the past several months, and that they were shocked to find their hall ticket numbers missing in the list of passed-out students. “Students face the threat of suspension when they question the state of affairs at the top Unani College in the State. Alleging misbehaviour, the students will be blacklisted. Now, some students are thinking to apply for re-evaluation, which costs Rs 2,000 per subject. We are not even sure if we get through in this kind of process,” the student said.
College Principal Dr Shahzadi Sultana, who acknowledged the delay in announcing the results and the way results were announced by Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS), to which the college is affiliated, said that the decision rests with the university authorities. “The university is under developing stage and is currently running in a two-room office. Earlier, we communicated some issues and they cited some ‘technical reasons.’ We shall be personally visiting the university to find out any possible solution to the issue,” she said.
