Banjara Hills: STAR Hospital has stated that its Institute of Neurosciences and Trauma which imparts training and education in full endoscopic spine surgery has been nominated for the tag of Centre for Excellence (CoE). The hospital has introduced full endoscopic spine surgery techniques for the treatment of Lumbar Disc Disease in South India from 2012, under the guidance of Dr Sukumar Sura, Endoscopic Neuro Spine Surgeon.

Dr Sukumar Sura has so far performed more than 500 advanced procedural surgeries with very good clinical results. He has also trained more than 25 surgeons in India and abroad. The impact of this breakthrough is tremendous, since Lumbar Disc Disease is a key cause of disability, affecting thousands of people in India.

To tackle this problem, new treatment options and surgical techniques are being continuously developed for preventing the outbreak of this disease. This surgery is the most exciting, innovative and unique, combining the advantages of radical treatment offered by open microscopic surgery.

Dr. Sukumar Sura and his team, along with RIWOspine, a Richard Wolf company based in Germany, are committed towards enhancing the implementation of full endoscopic spine surgery techniques across hospitals all over India.

Last year, Dr. Sukumar and his team organised an International Endoscopic Lumbar Spine Surgery Conference and LIVE Surgery workshop, which was attended by over 250 delegates from various countries.
This year, Dr Sukumar and his team plan to organise an international conference on Spine Endoscopy Summit on July 19 in Hyderabad.
