mty2Vizianagaram: It is the tale of an unfortunate young woman. Born to poor parents, her only aim in life was to study well and earn a good livelihood. She almost realised her dreams when she completed her BSc. and B.Ed. But suddenly a strange malady struck her and she became totally paralysed. Subsisting on daily wages, the labourer parents are the much worried lot at their child's plight.

Her name is Suryakantham. Residing at Gunupur of Denkada mandal in the district the girl, despite poverty, realised her ambition of being a graduate with help from neighbours and friends. She had migrated along with her parents from Damarasinghi of Gurla mandal. Her parents, Satyam and Suramma are daily wage earners. However, they educated their daughter with the earnest hope of giving her a good life.

But fate willed in a different way. The young woman who was preparing for her DSC exam suddenly collapsed and was bedridden. Doctors who diagnosed it as brain tumour tried to cure her but were unsuccessful. The hapless parents incurred a debt of Rs 2 lakh for the treatment.

The college management and friends volunteered to help. They referred the girl to an expert and bore the burden of the expenditure. At present her limbs are showing signs of consciousness. But she is yet to recover.

At least Rs 3,000 per month is needed to cure her completely. The labourer couple is dire need of help. Family members and neighbours are helping them at present. Whatever little aid that is extended to them would be towards helping a family to survive.
