Warangal: The Warangal Police Commissionerate has on Monday constituted a team of six women constables, well trained in martial arts, to conduct self-defence training to women, especially college girls.

The Commissionerate has been providing training to women in martial arts through their programme Swashakti which created record of sorts by organising ‘largest self-defence lesson at a single venue’ in which 21,276 boys and girls participated last year.

So far, the team has organised 78 training classes and imparted self-defence techniques to as many as 20,088 girls and working women. Speaking to The Hans India, Commissioner of Police G Sudheer Babu said, “This is just a beginning and we have a lot more to focus on the safety and security of women.

Although we have SHE teams working very efficiently keeping a tab on hooligans, the need of the hour is to boost the confidence levels in women and college girls whose safety is paramount to us.”
