Karimnagar: The police on Thursday arrested two persons, who used to rob lovers posing themselves as cops. The two were identified as Kondapally Raju Anand of Laxmipur under Kothapally mandal, and Medi Ravinder of Markandeya Nagar in the city.

Both befriended some time ago at the Lower Manair Dam (LMD) and wanted to make quick money by extorting the lovers and couples. They targeted the lovers roaming alone on LMD and its precincts. They used to whisk away with the valuables grabbed from them.

The duo used to threaten the victims that their parents would be informed if they did not pay heed to their demand. The duo also used to threaten the victims showing knife. The Rural police caught the duo during a vehicle check at Viajayapuri Colony. The accused tried to run away noticing the vehicle check but the police chased and apprehended them.

During the interrogation, the due spilled the beans about their criminal activity. The police said that so far nine cases were registered against the duo in various police stations. The police recovered a gold chain, a motorcycle and two mobile phones from them.

Commissioner of Police V B Kamalasan Reddy commended Rural inspector K Shashidhar Reddy, Kothapally Sub-Inspector M Ramesh, Rural Sub-Inspector N Laxmi Rajam and constables E Sudhakar reddy, Ashok, Md Basheer and Srinivas for showing presence of mind in nabbing the culprits.
