ecEluru (West Godavari): State Election Commissioner P Ramakanth Reddy inaugurated solar lighting system at Collectorate here on Thursday. Speaking on the occasion, he said that solar energy would be made available for everyone very soon. Ramakanth Reddy said that scientists were coming up with cutting edge technologies to generate power from sunrays and their experiments were turning out fruitful. Solar energy would come to the rescue of common man and thereby solving the power crisis in the State, the EC hoped. Ramakanth Reddy said that District Collector G Vani Mohan had taken special interest in setting up solar lights in the Collectorate. Solar lights would ease the burden on the government on account of electricity charges and supply demand. The conserved electricity could be used for other purposes. National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) was giving 30 per cent subsidy on solar plants, the EC informed. The Election Commissioner said that in the first phase, necessary steps would be taken to set up solar streetlights in 500 panchayats. In near future, every home would get a solar inverter, he said. District Joint Collector T Baburao Naidu and other officials were present.
