kuKakatiya University Academic Senate has approved a budget of Rs 164.83 crore for the financial year 2013-14. The budget was approved at the 28th meeting of the KU Senate in Warangal on Monday which was chaired by the University Vice-Chancellor Prof. B Venkat Rathnam Senior Professor of Commerce and Business Management Prof. K Krishna Reddy presented the annual budget which was unanimously approved by the Senate members. It is estimated that the university would get revenue of Rs 148.22 crore and the expenditure would be Rs 164.83 crore. With an opening balance of Rs 6.21 crore, the deficit stood at Rs 10.40 crore. The university would get a grant-in-aid of Rs 47.88 crore towards staff salaries from the State Government and the remaining would be mobilized from internal and other resources. It was proposed that an amount of Rs 18.22 crore be allocated for developmental activities which include Rs 50 lakh for the construction of auditorium, Rs 10 crore for KU College of Engineering and Technology. An amount of Rs 20 lakh was earmarked for Sports Board, Rs 1.78 crore for NSS activities, Rs 10 lakh for internet facilities, Rs 23.24 crore for examination branch, Rs 13.35 lakh for University Library, Rs 11.50 lakh for student services, Rs 27.00 lakh for plantation and beautification of campus. With an objective to improve facilities for the benefit of the students Rs 1.50 crore has been earmarked for construction of one hostel each for boys and women, Rs 50 lakh for new common mess hall. An amount of Rs 50 lakh has been allotted for Common Mess Hall for Women, Rs 50 lakh for construction of building for Women's College at Subedari Campus, Rs 50 lakh for open theatre. One crore set aside for construction of building for M.Sc. Psychology and MCJ courses. VC Prof. Venkat Rathanm apprised the Senate of the developmental activities of the university. He hoped that substantial grant from UGC is expected under XII Plan. He said that Rs 10 crore has been sanctioned to Kothagudem Engineering College under TEQIP (Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme) by the centre. Rs10 lakh for construction of hostels by Ministry for Social Justice and Empowerment Rs 56 lakh to the Pharmacy College under innovative programme scheme would be granted. The department of Commerce and Business management is being upgraded as University College of Management, he said. Approval accorded for starting M P Ed course in the campus and B.P.Ed at Khammam, he added. Former Vice-Chancellor Prof. Vidyavathi, Prof. V Gopal Reddy, Prof. N Linga Murthy, registrar Prof. K Sayulu, finance officer PV Ramesh Kumar, deans, heads of departments, administrative officers were present.
