Virat Kohli's Indian cricket team touched a new low on Saturday when they registered their lowest total in Tests during the third day of the ongoing day-night Test against Australia.

At the end of Day two's play on Friday at the Adelaide Oval, Team India were on the top as they reached 9 for 1 with a lead of 62 runs in the second innings. The match completed turned out on Day three in the first hour when Australia picked up as many as eight wickets in the first session before India's innings ended at 36 for 9 in 21.2 overs after Mohammed Shami suffered a blow on his hand and could not bat further.

India's previous lowest total was 42 all out in the Lord's Test against England on June 20, 1974.

Team India's total of 36 on Saturday was also the joint-lowest total against Australia in Tests – South Africa were dismissed for 36 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in 1931-32.

Mayank Agarwal top-scored for India with his knock of 9 off 40 deliveries as not a single Indian batsman reached double figures in their nightmare second innings in the pink-ball Test. This was only the second instance of all 11 batsmen of a side failing to score in double digits in the history of Test cricket. The previous instance was when England dismissed South Africa for 30 with the highest being Herbie Taylor's seven, though there were 11 extras in the innings.

The duo of Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood ran riot at the Adelaide Oval on Saturday as they picked up eight wickets between them, while Cummins had dismissed Prithvi Shaw on Friday. Hazlewood finished with figures of 5 for 8 in five overs, while Cummins – who completed 150 Test wickets in the game – grabbed figures of 4 for 21. Cummins became the joint-second quickest among Australian bowlers alongside Dennis Lillee, Shane Warne, and Stuart MacGill. The only Australian to reach the milestone quicker was Clarrie Grimmett who took only 28 Tests.

Chasing India's target of 90, Australia is 53 for no loss in 13 overs.
