The Indian skipper and his deputy, AjinkyaRahane, added 62 more runs for the fourth wicket before the latter got dismissed after making a half-century. Kohli though continued along his merry way and gave no respite to the Bangladeshi bowlers. Leaving the spectators awestruck with his majestic strokeplay, the run-machine smashed his 27th Test hundred to become the first Indian to score a century in day-night Tests.
The innings though was cut short at 136 by pacer Ebadat Hossain. With Bangladesh scalping a few quick wickets in the session, India declared their innings at 347-9 with a lead of 241 runs.
The declaration meant that the visitors had to face the pink ball under the lights. Adding to the misery, the under-the-pump Bangladeshi batters were left with a task of surviving the fiery Indian pace battery in the final session.
As expected, the Indian bowlers didn't take too long to draw their first blood. SpeedgunIshant Sharma continued his dream form from the first innings to rattle Bangladesh. Picking 4 wickets for 39, the lanky pacer has once again stood as the chief wrecker of the Bangla Tigers. Giving him good support was Umesh Yadav who accounted for the wickets of Mohammad Mithun and Taijul Islam.
On the brighter side of things for Bangladesh was their most experienced player, Mushfiqur Rahim, who came good with the bat after being dismissed for ducks in the previous two innings. The former skipper, in the company of Mahmudullah and Mehidy Hasan, looked compact at the crease to keep the Indians at bay for a while. The 32-year-old even brought up his 21st Test fifty and remained unbeaten on 59.
As the umpires called for stumps on Day 2, Bangladesh managed to scrape through to 152-6, trailing India by 89 runs. The MominulHaque-led unit will be taking the field on Day 3 with their backs to the wall as an upbeat Indian bowling unit looks keen on giving their team yet another memorable innings victory.
