Sports Authority of Telangana (SATS) chairman Allipuram Venkateshwar Reddy on Monday felicitated the state-level players who fetched Telangana 30 medals at the 11th National Silambam Championship held from May 3 to 6 at Erode in Chennai.

Hyderabad: Sports Authority of Telangana (SATS) chairman Allipuram Venkateshwar Reddy on Monday felicitated the state-level players who fetched Telangana 30 medals at the 11th National Silambam Championship held from May 3 to 6 at Erode in Chennai.

As many as 36 players participated in the championship and wrapped up their campaign on a high note by clinching two gold, six silver and 22 bronze medals. In 2018, around 30 players from Telangana took part and bagged 24 medals, including 12 silver and 12 bronze, a press release said.

Allipuram Venkateshwar Reddy, said: "Silambam is an old martial arts, it is a defensive and offensive game. Silambam sport is drawing good response from the present generation. Silambam Association was formed in 2018 and within the short period, the coaches have made remarkable effort in bringing them up to the National-level champions.

Silambam Association president Ram Mohan apprised about their problems with SATS Chairman. Allipuram Venkateshwar Reddy responded positively and assured them off all possible help and government's attention. He also promised to take appropriate steps to conduct tournaments in various districts.

Several Silambam players showcased their skills at L.B Stadium in the presence of SATS Chairman and Silambam Association Officials. Everyone were surprised by the Silambam performance by the SATS Chairman.

Telangana Silambam Association general secretary K. Ramesh, treasurer Pavan kumar, coach Sanjeev Kumar, Medak Dist Secretary Sunil Kumar and referees Kavitha, Praveen were also present.
