Bandampalli villagers boycott polling

Peddapalli: Only three persons out of the total 1,097 voters in Bandampalli village, Peddapalli mandal, had casted their vote. The remaining voters boycotted voting in the LS elections held on Thursday as their village was merged with Peddapalli municipality against their wish. They are also angry with the government for cancelling NREGS in their village and as a result, they alleged that they are left without job card.

Except this village, polling across Peddapalli Lok Sabha constituency concluded peacefully on Thursday without any untoward incidents.

The polling began on a dull note at 7 am on the day and picked up after 9 am with voters waiting in long queues, especially in rural areas.

Though the election officials were yet to arrive at a final figure on the poll percentage, District Collector Sri Devasena said the poll percentage was 65.22% till 5 pm as per information. This number may vary after the final list is prepared, she added.

Polling process in some areas in Mancherial district commenced late due to technical glitches in EVMs. Brisk polling was witnessed in Maoist areas in Manthani, Chennur, and Bellampalli, which were labelled as sensitive areas.

Many of the polling booths looks deserted in the afternoon, specially between 1 pm to 3 pm as voters didn't dare to come out in the scorching sun.
