Hyderabad: Cases were booked against the Bharatiya Janata Party national general secretary P Muralidhar Rao and eight others in Saroornagar police station on Monday.

The cases were booked on the basis of a complaint lodged by a housewife Talla Pravarna Reddy that the BJP leaders had taken Rs 2.17 crore from her by promising to secure her a nominated post, called Phama Exil.

The case was registered after being referred to the police by Ranga Reddy court. The complainant is the resident of Champapet here.

The accused were identified as A Krishna Kishore, V Eshwar Reddy, Manda Ramachandra Reddy, Gajula Hanumantha Rao, Sama Chandrashekar Reddy, Baba, Srikanth, P Muralidhar Rao and G Srinivas.

She, in her complaint, also alleged that the signature of the then Union Minister for Commerce Nirmala Sitharaman was forged. The complainant said her husband got acquainted with Eswar Reddy, one of the accused.

Reddy boasted that he was a journalist and in good books of prominent leaders of BJP. She filed a case with the police in 2016. But the case was not registered.

Later, Krishna Kishore, another accused in the case, issued cheques for Rs 2.10 crore to the complainant on the assurance that he would take back the cheques after paying the cash. But he had failed to fulfil the promise.
