Hyderabad: Sudden downpour played spoilsport forcing Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to cancel his public meeting in Huzurnagar to campaign for the party candidate S Saidi Reddy.

The polls for Huzurnagar assembly constituency are to be held on October 21.

The TRS Nalgonda unit had made elaborate arrangements for the meeting but following heavy downpour, the aviation department withdrew the permission for the chopper to take off.

According to a statement issued by Aviation director VN Bharat Reddy, weather was bad at Huzurnagar because of cloudburst clouds, squally weather and strong wind build up from Hyderabad to Huzurnagar.

"All these conditions result in reduced visibility, low clouds, thunder, lightning, strong vertical currents, heavy rain, conditions and strong gusty winds which are detrimental to flight safety," the statement said.

It may be mentioned here that the pink party had taken this byelection as a prestigious one and has been leaving no stone unturned to win it. For past two weeks several TRS leaders, including ministers have been camping in Huzurnagar.

The party wants to wrest the seat from Congress party. Saidi Reddy had lost the election to TPCC chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy in the last Assembly elections.

The seat fell vacant as Uttam later got elected to Lok Sabha from Nalgonda. Uttam's wife N Padmavathi is the Congress candidate who is pitted against the TRS candidate from Huzurnagar.

The party leaders had made elaborate arrangements for the public meeting and it was expected that about 25,000 people would attend the meeting.
