Collector M Prashanti warns of strict action against spurious seed sellers in Nirmal

Nirmal: District Collector M Prashanti warned seeds sellers and dealers that serious action will be taken against those, who sell spurious and expired seeds to farmers in Kharif season.

Addressing a meeting with seed and pesticides sellers and dealers at the Collectorate conference hall in Nirmal on Thursday, the Collector ordered the sellers not to sell pesticides and seeds more than the maximum retail price during Kharif season.

She instructed the agricultural officers to take necessary action to remove the banned BT-3 cotton seeds from the market. Stating that only licensed dealers should sell seeds and pesticides in the market, she also wanted them to maintain stock registers in the shop and stock reports at their respective godowns.

She told the dealers to take part in the government's prestigious programme Haritha Haram and to plant saplings in front of their shops and godowns.

District superintendent of Police Shashidhar Raju said the police department has made tight security arrangements to eliminate spurious seed sellers in the market. The SP wanted the farmers to dial 100 if they found anything suspicious.

District agriculture officer Koteshwar Rao, district co-operative officer Suryachandar Raju, agriculture officers and others were present at the meeting.
