Cops told to protect children and their rights in Mahbubnagar

Mahbubnagar: The Mahbubnagar police conducted one-day awareness seminar on child rights in the district on Thursday. As part of the programme, Additional Superintendent of Police N Venkateshwarlu took part as chief guest and spoke about various laws and Acts that are provided in the Constitution to protect the child rights. He said with changing times and new advances in technology, the police department should also change and deal with various issues effectively. He said that the State and the Central governments were preparing various laws and Acts to protect the children. However, the onus of implementing them effectively lies on the police.

The Additional SP stressed that children were facing many problems in the society as some people were stifling their right to education and forcing them into child labour and child marriages. He cited various incidents of violence and atrocities against children. While referring to various incidents of sexual exploitation, the ASP said that childhood was the most crucial stage of human development and any untoward incident during childhood could impact and influence their personality.

"Childhood is precious. This is a stage where every child must be given freedom to study and for that, conducive environment should be provided to them. However, in today's society, value systems are getting speedily eroded. It is time that we spread awareness on child rights, child safety and various laws protecting the children. Particularly, the parents must be aware of these laws and Acts and must provide their children the right environment to grow," said the ASP.

The ASP gave a call to police officials to work unitedly and urged the public to support them in implementing the laws to book those committing atrocities against children. He said the role of police department in implementing these laws and Acts was significant and urged the department officials to see to it that laws are strictly implemented and child rights are protected.
