Hyderabad: The Darul Ifta Jamia Nizamia has issued a Fatwa (opinion) on the query on the skipping of Urdu sermons and performing the Sunnah and Nafil prayers at home.

Darul Ifta Jamia Nizamia answered queries such as: Can Urdu sermons be skipped? Can the Arabic sermons and prayers be shortened? Can one perform the Sunnah and Nafil prayer at home, as per Islamic shariyah?

The seminary issued a Fatwa (opinion) citing everything good or bad is god-send. In the present situation, where the virus is rapidly growing in State, to prevent or combat the virus, sermons can be shortened and the devout can perform prayer at home even on Shab-e-Meraj," mentioned the fatwa.

On the raising of cases and spreading of Covid-19 in Telangana State, on Thursday, for the precautionary measures, Hyderabad Ulema and Mashayek from virous Islamic organisations requested the people to make ablution at home and not to use caps kept in mosques as they may contaminated and also urged them to perform the Sunnah and Nafil prayers at home and go mosques only for Farz prayers. They also asked the mosque managing committees across city to deliver only Arabic sermons to educate the people about the precautions and also to reduce the time of prayer.

Apart from the Juma prayers, the Ulema and Mashayek were also asked to postpone public meeting on Shab-e-Meraj and people were asked to perform Farz prayer in mosque and remaining at home.

Meanwhile, a meeting had conducted by Commissioner Bandlaguda Jagir, T Krishna Mohan Reddy with all religious heads at office of the Commissioner Bandlaguda on Friday. They have been informed not to allow or conduct any religious gatherings at their respective places of worship with immediate effect in view of the corona virus situation.

Earlier, the Helping Hand Foundation (HHF) urged the Ulemas to avail the concessions available in the Sharia law to help government cope with the situation.

The Foundation held that in light of the prevailing situation on Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), in the city and across the country and with the government taking proactive measures, it is only prudent to request the authorities to stop the Congregation for prayers in all masjids across the state as a proactive preventive measure.

The organisation pointed out with the increasing cases of the deadly COVID-19 virus spreading, many Muslim countries and Ulemas have made use of the concessions available in the Sharia law in such situations, to stop the congregations for prayers, where large number of Muslims gather for prayers in the interest of safe guarding and protecting people from the Coronavirus.
