Narayanpet: The people are still under the grip of fear as the Krishna and Bheema Rivers are flowing above danger line. In the past week flash floods in the district devastated lives of thousands of people.

According to a recent assessment, it is estimated that the farmers of Maganur, Makthal, Krishna and some other villages along the Krishna River bank have incurred a loss of more than Rs 163 lakh and more than 1,100 people are still living in rehabilitation centres as the flood water is yet to flow back.

As Krishna River is still flowing above danger mark with huge inflows from Narayanpur dam which continues to flow downstream towards Jurala project, the district administrations of Narayanpet, Gadwal and Wanaparthy districts have alerted their respective district authorities to keep a watch on the flood waters and advised them to make all necessary arrangements to shift the people from the low lying areas along the river bank.

It is estimated that more than 10,000 acres of crops have been inundated in Narayanpet, Gadwal and Wanaparthy districts during the past few days. In Narayanpet alone crops worth Rs 42 have been flooded in the river water.

Moreover Rs 25 lakh worth of Panchayat Raj roads have also been destroyed due to floods. Similarly, the Narayanpet district authorities said apart from Panchayat raj roads, the district also lost the RWS roads worth Rs 10 lakh and about Rs 86 lakh damage to the electricity department in the district.

The crop and assets loss in Gadwal and Wanaparthy district are still going on and very soon the officials are expected to come out with the figures of the loss caused due to the devastating floods in the district.
