Government seeks to establish two more medical colleges in Telangana State
- The proposed medical colleges will be opened in Karimnagar and Khammam districts
- Health Minister Eatala Rajender submits a memorandum to Union Health Minister and his deputy for upgradation of hospitals to district hospitals in all the newly formed districts
Hyderabad: Telangana is set to get two more government medical colleges in near future that will be established in Karimnagar and Khammam districts. This is in addition to nine government medical colleges in the State.
A delegation led by State Health Minister Eatala Rajender called on Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan and his deputy Ashwini Kumar Choubey (Minister of State) in New Delhi on Thursday and gave them a memorandum of demands pertaining to State's requirements and needs and various reforms proposed in the health sector.
Rajender told the Union Ministers that his government was keen on opening two new medical colleges and sought Centre's permission for the same.
Eatala also sought Centre's assistance for the new super-specialty blocks that are being set up in Kakatiya Medical College, Warangal and RIMS, Adilabad, construction works for which are already underway.
He also sought special funds for upgradation of hospitals to district hospitals in all the newly formed districts. There was an immediate response from Harsh Vardhan, who agreed to assist for hospitals up-gradation in 9 districts.
Telangana also sought assistance for establishing more ICU centres and increasing dialysis centres, whose present number is 40. The proposal to set up trauma care centres on national highways was also brought to the notice of the Union Ministers.
Later briefing media about his meeting, Eatala stated that he briefed the Union Ministers about various innovative schemes being implemented by the Telangana government including KCR Kits, Basti Dawakhaanas and Aarogyasri.
He said that TS would request the Centre to establish Unani, Homeopathy and Nature Care Centres in Ananthagiri hills.
He further stated that the Aarogyasri scheme is benefitting 85 lakh families in Telangana. With Ayushman Bharat scheme, many of these beneficiaries would be losing out, he stressed
Meanwhile, Rajender said that he brought the concerns of the medical fraternity in Telangana over the NMC Bill to the notice of the Health Minister.
He said the Union Ministers were requested to take a positive decision keeping in mind future of medicos and aspiring doctors.
