Speaking at a programme after paying floral tributes to Dr BR Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, on his 63rd death anniversary here on Friday, he said that Dalits need to draw inspiration from Babasaheb who worked for the empowerment of marginalised sections.

"Ambedkar was a champion of human rights and social reformer. His made an immense contribution in shaping country's future by ensuring equal rights for all the citizens. He fought for ensuring the fruits of development shared equally by all," Prof Veeranna said. He urged the people to read Dr. Ambedkar's books to understand his philosophy and vision, especially his principles - educate, organize, and agitate —propagated by him.

Besides working for the empowerment of socially underprivileged, Ambedkar was an ardent proponent of the rights of women and minorities, Prof Veeranna said.

Accusing the Central government of trying to dilute the laws that safeguard the rights of SCs and STs, he said that united the dalits would protect their rights and achieve their due in the nations' development.

KU Development Officer Prof V Ramachandram, KU SC, ST Cell Director M Srinivas, Dr Kotte Bhaskar, SDLCE PRO Dr Sangala Ephraim Raj, Dr V Jagan, Dr A Suryam, B Prabhakar, P Prathap, Srinivas Rao and Ramu were among others present.
