Hyderabad: BJP MLC and Greater Hyderabad City BJP president N Ramachander Rao asked the State government to wake up from its deep slumber before containing the spread of the deadly coronavirus goes out of its hands.

Observing a one-day fast in a protest demanding the State government to pull up its socks by increasing the number of COVID tests, the appointment of doctors, nurses and other health staff, he said that his party has been pleading, demanding the State government not to neglect and be serious in handing the COVID.

"We have been objecting the State government's attitude of trying to suppress the number of positive cases by not conducting the tests from the beginning.

We have also raised this issue before the Central teams visited the State that it is the negligence of the State government and its policies in handling the crisis."

In turn, the negligence has brought to such a pass that now people have to wait for hours to get their Covid tests done, to get oxygen cylinders, beds for admissions in the hospitals and shortage of ventilators.

Ramachander Rao reminded how the State government took things casually by designating Gandhi Hosptial in the city alone to treat the Covid patients. But, the BJP stepped up its pressure and people started demanding for the same the State government has bowed down to the same.

That too, only after its MLAs, leaders are contracted with Covid positive symptoms that it has allowed treatment in the private hospitals, he said.

Citing how one of the BJP union leaders had been denied admission at Gandhi Hospital, he said after seeking admission at several hospitals but being met with denial, the union leader had died, he claimed.

That apart, doctors, police, political leaders, officials contracting with the Covid shows the gravity of the situation, he charged.

Against this backdrop, demanding the State government to immediately take necessary steps to step up measures to contain the Covid spread, the BJP leaders in the 150 divisions of the GHMC areas, spread in Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy and Medchal have observed a day's fast, he said.
