Sangareddy: Precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus have been taken across the country. The Prisons Department of Telangana is also making all necessary arrangements in the jails to combat the virus.

All precautions were being taken at the Sangareddy district jail on the directions of the Department of Prisons DIG and DIG, said jail superintendent Shivakumar Goud. Elaborating the measures, he said new admits are provided with hot water for bathing. Even their cloths are washed in hot water before sending to barracks, he added. "If anyone found suffering from cold, cough, they will be kept in special enclosures," the superintendent said.

Overcoming masks scarcity

Manufacturers and sellers were making a killing exploiting the shortage of masks. Prices of the masks increased two to threefold. To overcome this shortage, the inmates started producing the masks on the premises. Using a sewing machine, the prisoners are making quality masks. "These masks are reusable. Once wash in hot water and you can use them again. We are supplying the masks at a low price of three rupees per one piece," superintendent Shivakumar said.

The masks manufactured in the jail were being used by inmates and the staff.
