Hyderabad: With big surge in positive cases in last few days, Gandhi Hospital is brimming with Covid patients.
The number of active cases in the State has gone well past 1000 mark and stood at 1010 as on Saturday. Fresh cases in excess of 100 are being reported daily for the last few days and hence most of the beds in Gandhi Hospital are getting occupied.
Gandhi doctors stated that they could accommodate 1,500 Covid patients presently after which the Health department will have to look for alternative designated hospitals like TIMS, Gachibowli or Chest Hospital for admitting positive cases.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that Covid-19 infected patients, under 50 years of age, and who don't have fever or symptoms for more than 3 days, are likely to be allowed to go home in the coming days. All DMHOs have been instructed to prepare and depute their ground staff with monitoring task of all discharged infected patients in strict home isolation for few days after discharge from the hospital. Although ICMR had issued modified discharge guidelines, Telangana did not implement them in full and right away.
It tried to create a mechanism in all districts and then start discharging asymtomatic infected patients. This decision if implement, the number of active cases in Gandhi is likely to be between 200 and 300 at the most. Meanwhile, Gachibowli Hospital with over 1,500-beds which has been readied for Covid admissions few weeks ago, is still waits for patients. Only after Gandhi hospital is filled to the maximum, the department is likely to shift new positive cases here.
Gandhi administration is requesting senior officials to make it a Covid hospital for critical cases in the coming weeks.
