• Demand his arrest for harassing neighbours
• Accuse him of foisting false cases against the residents
Nampally: Alleging that they were regularly facing harassment and false cases were being foisted at the behest of Papa Lal -- the man who became famous for adopting a Muslim girl who was orphaned in the Gokul Chat blast – the residents of Chudi Bazar in Begum Bazar on Friday approached State Human Rights Commission (HRC). The charges being faced by the neighbours include 'sexual harassment' of the minor girl, some of which claimed were cleared of charges.
Men, women and also children, claiming that false cases were continuously foisted against the residents of the locality they submitted petition at the HRC. Speaking to media persons, they alleged that false cases were being made by Papa Lal, a 'habitual drunkard'. "Earlier he used to allege that neighbours were harassing his wife and now after the girl has grown up, he is alleging that the men in the locality were harassing he girl. Each time the police fails to file a case he approaches HRC and even the cops are put under pressure. Moreover, for finding a compromise formula he has extracted lakhs of rupees from locals. Even a 4-year boy was not being spared and compels him to work for him," said one of the residents.
While blaming the police, they alleged that despite several complaints the Shahinayathgunj police maintained silence over the matter. "While investigating the case, the police acted in favour of Papa Lal and his family. This has become a norm to misuse the police department. During the past several years several complaints were lodged by residents against them. Even some of the media outlets including a well-known Hindi Newspaper and some media channels highlighted the issue, but surprisingly, police failed to act," they alleged. The residents also brought to notice that though a case was registered against Papa Lal and 2 others in 2020 but police neither arrested them nor took any appropriate action till date. "Earlier petitioners also approached the HRC in 2009 and 2010. Papa Lal is misusing a minor girl for wrongful gain and also misusing her against the residents of Chudi Bazar."
