Hyderabad: Students stage a protest at Dharna Chowk
Telangana BC Students Association organized a protest here on Monday with various demands such as payment of fee reimbursement dues, hike in scholarships based on increasing mess charges and others.
Dharna Chowk: Telangana BC Students Association organized a protest here on Monday with various demands such as payment of fee reimbursement dues, hike in scholarships based on increasing mess charges and others. President of BC welfare association R Krishnaiah, president of Telangna Jana Samithi Professor Kodandaram, BJP MLC Ramachandra Rao, TDP Telangana state president L Ramana, former MLC Ramulu Naik and Congress senior leader and former MP V Hanumantha Rao attended the program and expressed their solidarity to the protesting students.
Speaking on the occasion, R Krishnaiah warned the state government that they would launch a state-wide agitation if the fee reimbursement dues were not paid at the earliest. Even boycotting exams would be considered if the dues were not cleared, he warned. He criticized the TRS government for not allocating enough funds for the education sector. He alleged that only those projects which get commissions were taken up by the government, neglecting the education sector.
Professor Kodandaram demanded the government to release previous year dues of fee reimbursement along with that of this year. He said that the government had been releasing dues only when students come on to roads protesting against the delay. He alleged that the government takes up only those works which benefit contractors. He urged various political parties to raise the issue in the assembly and fight in support of students.
MLC Ramachandra Rao, speaking on the occasion, said that Telangana state had become most backward State with respect to education. While the previous governments released 10 per cent of the budget funds to education sector, TRS government had reduced it to 6.8 per cent, he lamented.
Senior Congress leader V Hanumantha Rao criticized the state government for its apathy towards the education sector. He alleged that government focus is more on revenue from sale of liquor, rather than on education. "Instead of staging protests at Dharna Chowk, do it before liquor shops, it would become sensational at the national level," he commented addressing the students. Hanumantha Rao said that he would ask CM KCR why he had not fulfilled his promise of providing jobs to every home.
L Ramana, TDP leader, expressed his concern on news that the TRS government was planning to close 12,000 government schools in the state. He criticized the government for its failure to fill 50,000 vacant teacher posts. He extended his support to students on behalf of his party.
BC leaders Gujja Krishna, Neela Venkatesh, Ramkoti, Bhoopesh Sagar, Anitha, Kota Srinivas, Jayanth Ramalingam and large number of students participated in the protest.
