Talakondapally: The residents of Khanapur and surrounding village of Talakondapally mandal staged a protest on Friday and demanded that the Talakondapally Tahsildar not accept the GHMC proposal to establish a large-scale dumping yard near their villages.

Earlier, the GHMC officials from Hyderabad had visited Khanapur and conducted survey in the surrounding areas, to identify a suitable place for the establishment of a large-scale dumping yard, similar to the one at Jawahar Nagar on the outskirts of Hyderabad towards Shameerpet.

After learning about the proposal of the GHMC authorities, the local leaders from the surrounding villages along with the residents of Khanapur village gathered at Talakondapally Tahsildar's office and protested against the move and demanded that the government immediately shun away from this proposal. "We will not accept any kind of proposal by the GHMC to set up a dumping yard in our surroundings. We are sure they will dump all the filth and garbage of Hyderabad city near our villages and it will create lot of stink and pollution in our villages causing various diseases. We are demanding that the government shun from any such moves, or else we will further intensify our protest and will fight until GHMC takes back its proposal," said a protesting resident of Khanapur.

The residents of Khanapur felt that if they allow a GHMC dumping yard near their village it will create a similar situation of Jawahar Nagar in Hyderabad, where the residents of that area were still facing lot of inconvenience and health problems due to the stink emanating from the dumping yard.

They said a similar kind of situation may arise here in their village and it will not only spoil their living and health conditions, but it will also have adverse effect on the real estate market in this area, believed a few persons in the village. Later, the protesters submitted a representation to Talakondapally Tahsildar and urged him to convey their protest and opposition for the proposed dumping yard in their village.
