Hanamkonda: The Kakatiya University (KU) employees paid floral tributes to their former Vice-Chancellor Prof K Jayashankar, who fought a long battle for separate Telangana. The All India Universities Employees Confederation (AIUEC) Vice-President Dr Pulla Srinivas urged people to work hard to realise Prof Jayashankar's dreams. It may be recalled here that Prof Jayashankar worked as KU VC from 1991 to 1994.

"Prof Jayashankar's fight for Telangana began in 1952 and he continued it till he breathed his last in 2011. He is the one, who propagated the importance of separate State by pointing out the injustice meted out to Telangana by Seemandhra rulers.

He guided the movement and played a crucial role during the second phase of statehood movement launched in 2001," Srinivas said. He said that Prof Jayashankar united the leaders irrespective of their political affiliations to fight for separate State. Prof Jayashankar was also instrumental in inspiring people of all professions stage demonstrations in the region, Srinivas said. SC/ST SDLCE Employees Union Vice-President Dr Sangala Ephraim Raj said that Telangana will never forget Prof K Jayashankar's contribution and services.

"Prof Jayashankar who taught economics had in-depth knowledge of problems faced by Telangana people especially those related to regional disparities in the united Andhra Pradesh," Ephraim Raj said.

Prof Jayashankar working as a lecturer had revived the agitation in 1968 and carried out his struggle for Telangana through research, and by bringing awareness about separate State among the people.

KU Technical Association Union leaders V Nandaiah, Mettu Ravi, Ch Balaji, Non-Teaching Employees Union president K Chiranjeevi and N Ailaiah were among others present.
