Karimnagar: The State government is striving hard for the upliftment of the fishermen community by introducing various schemes, said Animal Husbandry Minister, Talasani Srinivas Yadav here on Saturday.

Talasani along with BC Welfare and Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar, Choppadandi MLA S Ravi Shankar and District Collector Sarfaraz Ahmed released prawn seeds in Lower Manair Reservoir in Karimnagar district. He also distributed cattle to beneficiaries.

Addressing the meeting organised on the occasion, Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav said that he was feeling happy by seeing the Lower Manair Reservoir filled with Kaleshwaram water. Unlike other States, the Telangana government is striving hard to uplift the people of Bestha, Mudiraj and fishermen communities by sanctioning fish and prawn seeds on 100 percent subsidy and by releasing them in reservoirs, he added.

Starting from Rs1 crore for releasing of prawn seeds into the reservoirs that across the State, this year, the government invested Rs 5 crore for releasing the prawn seeds into various reservoirs. The rearing of Neekakanta prawns started from Lower Manair Reservoir through releasing their seeds here on Saturday, the Minister said.

Around 30 small and big reservoirs are present in the State. In all of these reservoirs, prawn seeds will be released in phased manner. Already, release of fish seeds in small and big lakes and tanks has started across the State, he added.

After the formation of Telangana around 20 crore fish seeds on 100 per cent subsidy were released into lakes and tanks across the State. This year around 61 crore fish seeds were released into the lakes and tanks, he informed.

The people who belong to Bestha, Mudiraj and fishermen communities have right to catch those fish freely they grow to the maximum size by taking membership in the societies. Very soon elections will be conducted for the societies to fill happiness in the lives of fishermen communities, he said.

The government is also sanctioning TVS mopeds, vans and nets on 75 per cent subsidy for their economical growth. For the purpose, the government has sanctioned Rs 30 crore and urged the people of fishermen community to utilise the opportunity, he informed.

The Minister directed District Collector Sarfaraz Ahmed to allot a suitable land for the establishment of fish market and also for the establishment of fish processing units in Karimnagar district. The Commissioner of Animal Husbandry department Dr Suvarna, Additional Director Ramachandram, General Manager Srinivas Rao, District Libraries Department chairman A Ravinder Reddy, District Fisheries Department officer Khadeer Ahmed and District Animal Husbandry officer Ashok Kumar were present.
