Second phase medical counselling from today
- 220 MBBS and 170 BDS seats left unfilled in first phase
- Waiting continues for EWS quota counselling
- EWS quota likely to be confined to govt colleges this year

Hyderabad: Kaloji Narayana Rao University for Health Sciences (KNRUHS) has issued notification for the second phase of counselling to fill MBBS and BDS seats (Convener quota) in both government and private medical colleges.
After the end of the first phase, nearly 220 MBBS and 170 BDS seats were left vacant.
Candidates, whose names featured in the final merit list displayed on July 6 on the varsity website, were told to exercise web options from July 17 to 19.
Candidates, who joined the course in the first phase and are continuing the course, will be eligible to exercise options for upgradation.
Those candidates who did not join seats allotted in the first phase of counselling are not eligible to apply again for this counselling.
Further, the varsity officials asked students to exercise options for course and colleges in which they are interested to join.
Meanwhile, counselling for filling EWS (Economically Weaker Sections) quota for MBBS will be held separately as the state authorities are still awaiting clarity from the Medical Council of India (MCI) on additional seats to be sanctioned to private medical colleges to facilitate implementation of EWS quota.
Already, five government medical colleges in the state were sanctioned 190 additional seats out of which more than 90 seats are likely to be the share of EWS quota.
Ten private medical colleges have come forward to implement EWS quota and sent their proposals to the Centre accordingly, but no decision has been taken as far as seat increase is concerned till now.
However, senior officials from the Health department have disclosed that the Centre was in two minds on implementation of EWS quota in private medical colleges from this year onwards as these colleges are already facing a crunch in faculty and infrastructure.
Allotting additional seats this year would further compound the problem as colleges have no time on hand to address these issues.
It is most likely that EWS quota in private medical colleges would start from next year onwards, the official said.
