Secunderabad: The moment the news of 24-year-old software engineer, a resident of Ravi Colony, Mahindra Hills, SCB-ward 5 testing positive for novel coronavirus (nCovid19) broke out, residents in and around the area are on high alert. On Tuesday, the Secunderabad Cantonment Board undertook a sanitation drive – the area was sprayed with Tenophos.

M Devender, Superintendent of Health and Sanitation Department, SCB, said, "All the preventive measures are taken. Garbage has been removed, cleaning of open nalas, spraying of the chemicals and sprinkling of bleaching powder has been done.

"We are planning to distribute pamphlets and also with the help of public automated mike system we are going to spread about the awareness of nCorvid19 across SCB from tomorrow."

Ramakrishna, the SCB member ward no 5, said, "SCB initiated cleanliness and hygiene drive at Mahendra Hills and surrounding areas and it would continue. Coordinating with the state health department the relief measures would be taken. The board is planning to hold a colony meeting."

Paavali, a resident of Ravi Colony, who stays right opposite to the patient's house, said," It is shocking to hear that one of our neighbours is the victim of the nCovid19. As he is the only child of parents who are railway employees. A few months back his father retired. 10 months ago, they shifted here. We are taking protective measures." Ravi, a sanitation worker of SCB, said, "We are clearing the garbage from the area. Also all open drains are being cleaned."

Srinivas Reddy, another resident from Ravi Colony, said, "Around 300 residents reside over here and all are living in fear. As there are many elders and school going kids over here, we are requesting them to wear protective masks."

The patient's father retired from Indian Railways and the family shifted to Mahendra Hills just 10 months ago. We are shocked to know that he has tested positive for Coronavirus
