Spurious toddy claims two lives, 200 hospitalized in Vikarabad

Two people died and more 200 were hospitalized in the past three days after consuming spurious toddy in Vikarabad.
Two people died and more 200 were hospitalized in the past three days after consuming spurious toddy in Vikarabad. While a person identified as Krishna Reddy (62) from Pendlimadugu died on Saturday, another person Komaraiah (90) from Vattiminepalli died today morning.
Over 200 people from Nawabpeta and Vikarabad mandals fell sick after consuming the toddy. Officials said that there is a rise in the number of victims who complained of giddiness, nausea and shivering. While some were rushed to the district hospital and few to Hyderabad.
The police have already launched an inquiry into the incident and teams were sent to toddy manufacturing unit for inspection. Meanwhile, the excise officials collected the samples and sent them for laboratories and seized the toddy shops.
Medical camps were set up in the two villages on the order of Vikarabad MLA Anand. MLA Anand who is also a doctor examined a few patients after learning the incident.
