Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President and Nalgonda MP Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the people of Telangana have rejected the arrogance of TRS which made Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao claim that his party would win 16 out of 17 seats in Lok Sabha elections.

Speaking on the occasion of felicitation of newly elected MPs of Congress party at Gandhi Bhavan on Tuesday, Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the Congress party has won from Nalgonda, Bhongir and Malkajgiri and lost with a narrow margin from two seats. He said that the Congress party's performance has been excellent despite TRS candidates distributing money and liquor. He said TRS tried to weaken Congress by encouraging defection by MLAs. However, he said people have rejected all such tactics of TRS and confined it just 9 seats, two less than 2014 elections.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the TRS has failed to implement the poll promises and its MPs have failed to pressurise the Centre on implementation of promises in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act. He said that the Congress MPs would fight with the Centre to get Bayyaram Steel Plant, Qazipet Railway Coach Factor and other promises made in the Act. Further, he said that the Centre would be forced to accord National Project status to a major irrigation project of Telangana.

The TPCC Chief said that the party would be strengthened further across the State. Commenting on BJP's victory on four Lok Sabha seats, he said that the BJP won the seats only due to luck. He said secularism was in the roots of Telangana and there was no place for any communal parties in Telangana.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the party has strong faith in the leadership of Congress president Rahul Gandhi and he should resign from his post.

Bhongir MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Malkajgiri MP Revanth Reddy, Chevella ex-MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy and former minister Mohammed Ali Shabbir also spoke.

Uttam Reddy Reddy, Komatireddy and Revanth Reddy were felicitated by the party leaders and workers on the occasion.
