Hyderabad: The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee's Core Committee meeting which was proposed to be held in the second week of this month has been deferred due to various reasons.
Sources in the party said that the meeting may be held after the celebration of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi's 75th birth anniversary on August 20.
Most likely the meeting may be held in the last week of this month. The TPCC has proposed two months ago to hold Core Committee meetings every month at various district headquarters or important cities and towns of the State to rejuvenate the party workers.
The first meeting was held at Nagarjunasagar in the last week of June. The second meeting was held at Sangareddy during last month. The third meeting was proposed at Mahbubnagar in the first week of this month. However, it did not take place.
Party leaders said the third meeting was postponed as TPCC president Uttam Kumar Reddy who was also Member of Parliament was in Delhi to attend Parliament sessions and party activities. The Parliament sessions have ended on August 6 and he was asked to attend the AICC meeting on Article 370 two days after that.
Later, the AICC has taken up the election of party president post on August 10. With this the Core Committee meeting was postponed, party leaders said. The TPCC is yet to decide the date of the meeting.
On the other hand, few party leaders said the Core Committee meeting was intended to discuss the preparedness of the party for the municipal elections. The TPCC thought that the municipal polls would be held in August first week and tried to prepare the party's rank and file in this direction.
However, the polls have been deferred due to the hearing on the cases filed against them in the court. The hearing would take place on August 20 and unless court clears the matter, it would not be possible to hold the elections to the municipalities and to the corporations.
The TPCC leadership which expected municipal polls in this month now has its fingers crossed on the schedule of the elections. They have been expecting that the polls would be held in first week of September.
The other reason to defer the Core Committee meeting was celebration of Rajiv Gandhi's birth anniversary. Since the next birth anniversary would be 75th one, the Congress is planning weeklong celebrations.
Several programmes have been planned and the TPCC is eager to hold the celebrations on a large scale. The party's leaders and workers have been told to make good arrangements for the programme.
